Situated at the tip of the most magnificent, mysterious and wildest continents, South Africa is a land of spectacular contrasts, physically and culturally. It’s here you’ll find the world’s oldest rocks, the cradle of mankind, and the world’s newest democracy. If you are looking for a country which gathers several landscapes and a lot of things to discover… South Africa will realize this.

South Africa is one of the most unique and diverse countries in the world. Whether it’s the breathtaking scenery, with its incredible wildlife, or the sophistication of the cities, South Africa can cater for every taste. South Africa is famous for its vastness and the diversity of its landscapes (deserts, mountains, sandy beaches with turquoise water, American cities, small « zulus » villages).

Johannesburg is a remarkable city where high-rise buildings cluster at the city centre and suburbs sprawl outwards, some becoming cities in their own right. Johannesburg’s best shops and hotels can be found in the attractive northern areas of Rosebank and Sandton. Sightseeing can include “Museum Africa” which focuses on the cultures of the indigenous peoples and the City Art Gallery, which is rich in Pre-Raphaelite and Impressionist paintings. Financial capital of South Africa, Johannesburg is the capital of superlative expression: the richest city of the country with the biggest buildings and the biggest social disparities.

Cape town the mother city, sparkles between the sea and South African’s most famous landmark, Table Mountain. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is the number one tourist attraction with pubs, restaurants, speciality shops, arts and craft markets, and harbour boat tours. The Garden Route lies east of Cape Town and encompasses some of South Africa’s most beautiful beaches, mountains, and rivers.

Pretoria is the national capital, today know as Tshwane. In spite of some skyscrapers, Pretoria is more like an city-garden. It keeps its reputation of  a relatively quiet city. The university district of Hatfield presents museums and vestiges of the past.

Durban manages to combine the “fun” atmosphere of the nation’s premier beach resort with the restlessness of Africa’s busiest port. The diverse culture within Durban is shown by the array of mosques and temples, colourful saris, markets packed, tropical fruits and spices. Durban is also proud of its parks, which include the Durban Botanical Gardens.

Wildlife on the tip of the continent is simply spectacular.  That’s why several parks have safaris to discover the nature and the animals like lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and rhinos.

The Blyde River Canyon is one the most spectacular views in South Africa. It is one of the biggest canyons in the world. The abrupt cliffs are covered with lichens. Blyde River Canyon was dug by the Blyde River over several million years. It offers prodigious points of view.

South Africa is distinguished by a rich musical history due to the most complex fusion of styles from European and American influences. This country is famous for its music thanks to the fusion of reggae, traditional music, Zulu harmonies, jazz, and contemporary pop.

South Africa is a sports nation where you can practice football, cricket, rugby or athletics. Sports are considered as religion in this country. Everybody forget race, language and politics when they think about sports. Every 4 years the World Cup gathers 6 confederation regions: Africa (CAF), South America (CONMEBOL), Europe (UEFA), Asia (AFC), Oceania (OFC) and North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF)… And in 2010 South Africa will welcome all of them.
